Is the kind of car you drive a big deal to you? Or does it just need to get you from point A to point B? Check out the second in our series of quick surveys here, and let us know what you think (and you’ll be able to see what everyone else thinks too).

Take the survey.

If you missed the results of our last survey on what Australian managers are most concerned about, you can find them here.

Thanks for participating!

Thank you to all those who entered the BNET Australia “Words of Bizdom” competition. We received a large number of interesting and insightful examples of useful managerial advice. Winners of the competition include:

Major winner

  • D. Gee from NSW took away top prize with this entry: ” Don’t assume that you always know the answer, but always trust that you know the person who does.”

Runners-up

  • N. Stratford, SA
  • J. Carey, NSW
  • T. Mitchell, VIC

Here are a few more of the submissions we received — please feel free to add your own advice or leave a comment.

  • “When recruiting staff or building team, there is no substitute for experience and intelligence - qualifications are secondary.”
  • “When listening, really be involved in hearing all that is said, the little words are as important as the grand explanation of concepts. Pay heed to the lowest employee of any business, always say thank you, and never take your own publicity as factual.”
  • “There is always a choice about the way you do your work, even if there is not a choice about the work itself.”
  • “The only certainty about a 5-year plan is that it will be dramatically wrong in 5 years.”

Thank you again to all those that entered the “Words of Bizdom” competition.

To get a better gauge of BNET readers’ needs and concerns, we’re asking you to take a moment (honest, just three one-click questions!) to tell us what business concerns are keeping you up at night. You’ll find the survey form here, and once you respond, you’ll be able to see a chart showing the results so far.

Thanks for your participation. We’ll be doing these periodically and look forward to your continued support.

Get your favourite piece of business advice in by May 31 and you could win some great wine prizes, including a magnum of 2000 Grand Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, courtesy of Pepper Tree Wines.

We’ve also put together a survey for Australian readers of BNET which closes at the end of this week, and we’d appreciate your input. Thanks for your help, and feel free to leave comments about the site at the end of the survey. Your feedback is much appreciated!

As part of the BNET Australia official launch, we’re inviting all our readers to submit their best piece of managerial advice and go into the running to win some great wine prizes.

We’ve all heard great pieces of advice from the great business people we’ve encountered through our careers — and they’ll stay with us forever. Now we want to hear your advice.

Tell us what the best piece of business advice you’ve received or given below in the Participate comments section. Please credit your advice with name and company or you can remain anonymous if you prefer. Entries will be judged by the BNET Australia editorial team.

One winner will receive a magnum of 2000 Grand Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and three runners up will receive bottle packs of Reserve Range, all courtesy of Pepper Tree Wines. Click here to see the full terms and conditions.

If you’d rather not leave your contact details in comments section below, just copy your post and send it with your contact details to competitions-au@bnet.com. The competition will run until Friday, May 30, and we’ll post the winners’ names here on Tuesday June 3. Check back then to see who won!

Here are some examples:

  • Under-promise and over-deliver.
  • Define your business goals clearly so that others can see them as you do.
  • If you think you can or you can’t — you’re right!
  • I am grateful for all my problems. I became stronger and more able to meet those that were still to come.

Best of luck!

Strategy. Getting the most out of your team. Sussing out the competition. Sure, these are important aspects of the Australian football code known as Aussie Rules, but they’re also key to succeeding in business.

This collection of blogs from some of Australia’s top business experts illustrates the rules of the game and shows how teams can sometimes play a bit differently Down Under.
