(Episode 363; 21 minutes 07) Some might argue that we need to get government 1.0 to work properly before we worry about government 2.0. The latter, as you might expect, refers to government using web 2.0 technologies to communicate with the public and, we’d hope, to take feedback and promote discussion.

The Government 2.0 Taskforce has been set-up to advise and assist the Government in ways of encouraging greater disclosure of public information, enable greater use of that information and drive online innovation, consultation and engagement by government.

Dr Nicholas Gruen, himself a rampant blogger, is the chair of the Taskforce. He talks to Phil Dobbie about the role of the taskforce and the opportunities that exist.

The Taskforce will provide a final report on its activities to the Minister for Finance and Deregulation and the Cabinet Secretary by the end of 2009.

RE: The Government 2.0 Taskforce | BTalk Australia

The issue boils down to getting the government to share information. The military is almost impossible in the U.S. They are so paranoid about their networks that the lock everything down. People are stuck in old habits and don't even take advantage of the tools given to them to act more collaboratively and share information. If gov't workers cannot do it with each other how do you expect them to do it with the public they actually serve.
