There are four things we ordinary people can learn from athletes realising their Olympic dream as they head into Beijing this week:

  • Body — our bodies are designed to move, stretch and burn energy — take up a sport you enjoy.
  • Mind — Healthy Body/Healthy Mind — at the elite level it is often the mindset and attitude that separates the medal contenders.
  • Heart — the heart and passion is what drives them — what are you passionate about? What do you really want to be when you grow up?
  • Innovation — competition drives innovation. Many companies have been “working feverishly to rewrite the Universal Law of Sports Technology” according to Fast Company. Check out 18 technological masterworks — from archery bows to BMX gear — including a rare tour of Nike’s innovation Kitchen.

Best wishes to all the competitors and their families — Go Aussies Go!
