Is it just me or is our brain the new black? As I rushed out the door to catch a flight, I grabbed the top five magazines from my “To Read” pile. Each one had a major article on the brain with two magazines displaying a picture of a brain on the cover. Advice includes:
- Cross-train your brain — use it or lose it applies to your brain as much as to your muscles.
- Ride the Bicycle of Imagination rather than the Volvo of Logic.
- Use problem solving techniques, such as Mind Maps to build brain flexibility.
- Understand your brain at work and introduce Shakespeare in Kindergartens.
- Develop a ‘growth mindset’ — believing that our brain grows and changes, rather than fixed, helps us relish challenges and are more resilient in the face of setbacks.
It may be the red car syndrome — You know when you buy a new red car then all you see are red cars! I am highly attracted to articles that talk about the brain and how to get the most out of it. Why? A few years ago I followed the advice of the famous author and inventor of Mind Maps, Tony Buzan, to make my brain and my body my hobby. I recommend you do the same.
